Bolton’s magical winter wonderland will open on Saturday, November 29.
Construction has been underway all week on a 255 square metre ice rink and Santa’s grotto on Victoria Square, and a fifty metre snow slide on Newport Street.
The council has arranged the attractions, in town from November 29 to January 4, 2015, to attract shoppers and boost town centre trade over the festive period.
A giant 100 foot Ferris wheel will also be on Victoria Square from Thursday, December 11.
The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Martin Donaghy, will officially open proceedings at 10.30am at the ice rink followed by a show-stopping performance from Olympic hopeful 14-year-old professional ice skater Harriet Beatson.
Camisha Carter, dressed as Princess Elsa from the hit Disney film Frozen, will then sing ‘Let it go’. The attractions will open at 11am to the public.
Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris said: “This Christmas there is something for everyone to enjoy in our festive programme.
“The new addition of the snow slide will be a sure hit, and this year we have an even bigger ice rink and with a covered skate exchange area where people can buy hot food and snacks.
"We’ll also be putting on street entertainment throughout the festive period and the popular Santa’s Express will be back.
“People can do their shopping, have a great day out and park for free this Christmas in Bolton.”
Opening times for the main attractions are: Thursday to Saturday from 10am to 7pm (until 9.30pm on Dec 4 to 7, 11 to 13, and 19 to 20); Sundays 10am to 5pm; Monday to Wednesday from 10am to 5pm. They will be open on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Eve from 10am to 3pm, and closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Hours may vary dependent on weather and school trips.
Prices vary and tickets are available online on www.visitbolton.com/winterwonderland and from the on-site box office.
Santa’s grotto will be in town from November 29 to December 21. The cost is £1 and opening times are Thursdays from 11am to 7pm and Friday to Sunday 11am to 5pm.
