Tickets for Bolton’s Winter Festival will be available from tomorrow (Friday, October 21).
The council announced recently that it was bringing a host of attractions, including a giant 55 metre snow slide, to the town to attract shoppers and boost town centre trade over the festive period.
Newport Street will see the return of the popular artificial snow slide, sponsored by the University of Bolton. And Victoria Square will host the town’s first ever covered ice rink, sponsored by Market Place Shopping Centre.
On Oxford Street, a traditional log cabin Santa’s grotto, with a snow roof and a giant glittering, singing symphony tree will also entertain visitors.
Tickets will go on sale for all attractions on www.visitbolton.com/winterfestival.
A Festive Artisan Market will open first, from December 1 to 11 in Deansgate and Oxford Street.
This will be followed by the snow slide and ice rink from December 10 to January 8, 2016, and Santa’s grotto from December 10 to 24.
The slide and rink will open: Monday to Sunday from 9am to 8pm. Opening times on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Eve from 9am to 5pm. The attractions are closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and hours may vary dependent on weather and school trips, and special late night offers.
Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris said: “We’ve had fantastic feedback to the news we were bringing the snow slide back. And together with our other attractions there will be plenty on offer in Bolton for the whole family. This year we’ve organised some special events so I’d encourage everyone to come along to join in the fun and book in advance to avoid disappointment.”
The snow slide costs £2 for one ride and £5 for three rides. The ice rink costs £6.50 for adults; £3.50 aged 14 and under, and £4.50 for senior citizens and students. Family tickets at £16. Late night and student night tickets can also be purchased - prices vary, check online for details.
A discounted rate of £2.50 per person is also on offer for ‘Penguin Club’, parent and child (aged 8 and under) ice skating sessions. These will take place 9am to 11am at weekends, and also from Wednesday, December 21 daily from 9am to 11am.
Santa’s grotto will be in town from December 10 to 24. Cost is £2 per child and includes a chocolate gift. The grotto will be open on December 10 and 11, and December 17 to 24 - Friday to Sunday 10am to noon, 1pm to 3pm and 4pm to 6pm. From December 12 to 16 opening times are noon to 2pm, and 3pm to 6pm.
Tickets can also be bought from the box office on Victoria Square when the attractions open.
