A half a million pound scheme to improve Wigan Road starts on Wednesday, August 25.
The £450,000 scheme involves resurfacing the road between the Beaumont Road and Hulton Lane junctions.
Improvements are expected to take six weeks to complete, dependent on weather conditions.
Two-way traffic will be maintained for much of the scheme, however, temporary traffic signals will need to be used during off-peak hours at certain points along the road.
For safety reasons, parking on the road will be restricted at certain times and some bus stops will be closed temporarily as the works progress.
Councillor Akhtar Zaman, Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services, said: “This stretch of road really suffered in the severe winter weather and this is much needed improvement for a key traffic route. We did some resurfacing further down Wigan Road and along Deane Road last year, which means that once this work is complete, the whole road will have been resurfaced.”
Local company J Hopkins Ltd are carrying out the works for the council. Residents and motorists are asked to be patient and to contact the council’s helpline on 01204 336677 for further information.
