Work on improvements to Wigan Road, Westhoughton starts on Monday, July 30.
Resurfacing will take place on Wigan Road, between its junctions with Cricketers Way and Wearish Lane, from July 30 for approximately seven weeks.
The majority of the work will take place during weekdays and while the road will remain open, temporary traffic lights will be used.
This could cause some delays to motorists but every effort will be made to keep inconvenience to a minimum.
In addition, the junction of Wigan Road and Wearish Lane will be closed on Sunday, August 12 and 19.
Motorists will not be able to enter or leave Wigan Road at this junction during the closures, but all other junctions will be open and diversions will be signposted.
Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, Councillor David Chadwick, said: “Wigan Road is a well-used major route in and out of Westhoughton. While the resurfacing may cause some delays, the work has been programmed to take place during the school summer holidays to try and keep disruption to a minimum.
“Once the work is complete the condition of the road will be significantly improved, making the inconvenience worthwhile. We would ask that drivers, residents and businesses are patient while the work is carried out.”
