Overdale Crematorium’s West Chapel will close for up to six weeks for improvement work.
The £177,000 scheme involves a complete refurbishment of the West Chapel from the entrance up to the departure area.
It also includes renovating the waiting room and upgrading the toilet facilities.
The West Chapel will close on Monday, August 13 and reopen on Monday, September 24. During this time all cremation services will take place at the Crematorium’s East Chapel.
The work is being done at this time as the average number of funerals is usually less than at other times of the year.
Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, Councillor Akhtar Zaman, said: “We are working hard to minimise any disruption to the services we provide and we are hopeful that we can still accommodate all funerals in the East Chapel.
“We have informed funeral directors of the plans and we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience that is caused.”
Parking and access to the Crematorium’s East Chapel will not be disrupted by the work. Heaton cemetery will remain open as usual for burials.
