The council’s new website has been awarded three stars by a national body.
This year’s annual SOCITM (Society of IT Managers) Better Connected review studied 433 local authority websites across the UK and awarded them between one and four stars – a new rating system introduced this year.
Websites were rated on many different criteria including whether citizens could find answers to their questions, if the site was up to date, if it had a consistent style that aided navigation and how easy it was to search.
Bolton’s website, which was re-launched last July, has been awarded three stars, putting it in the top 27 per cent of council websites in the UK.
Overall, three per cent of council websites received the top four star rating, 24 per cent three star, 46 per cent two star and 27 per cent received one star.
Work on phase two of the website development project, which involves improving the online transactions which the council offers customers, is now underway and is likely to be complete by the end of the year.
Councillor Linda Thomas, Executive Member for Corporate Resources and Health commented: “An increasing number of people get all their information on the council online, so it is vital that we provide an easily accessible site, with content which is constantly updated. The new website allows residents to find out the latest news on the council, make payments, report problems or issues in their local area and find out all about the services in their local area. We are delighted that it has been placed amongst the top council websites in the UK and will continue to work to improve the website based on public feedback.”
