Bolton Council is offering residents a final chance to get rewards for slimming their bin early, ahead of the planned introduction of grey bins in June 2016.
Residents who sign up to slim their bis before the end of March 2016 will be entered into a prize draw for a number of prizes including £100 of vouchers for Bolton Market, a family day out for four people to Smithills Farm and a year’s membership of Bolton Community Leisure Trust.
Over 4,200 households have already signed up to switch to a slim grey bin and four winners were already selected in December.
Any residents who are keen to slim their bins and potentially win prizes can visit www.bolton.gov.uk/loverecycling or email email@example.com
The council will be replacing all 240 litre grey bins with slim 140 litre grey bins between June and November 2016, but there will be no other changes to collection rounds or days for residents.
Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, Councillor Nick Peel, said: “We were keen to encourage households in Bolton to switch to the slim grey bin and see for themselves if they could manage and we are delighted that over 4,200 households have already agreed to swop.
We want to encourage anyone else who is keen, to adopt a slimmer bin and they may win a prize for helping us recycle more and save more money.”
The council also wants to encourage any residents who feel they need help with waste and recycling to apply for a waste audit. You can apply for a waste audit by calling 01204 336632 or visiting www.bolton.gov.uk/loverecycling. Large families with six or more people, families with three or more children in nappies and households with one or more people producing medical waste may be able to keep their larger bin as long as they are recycling and using all the containers.
