People are being urged to get on their bike and join the Sky Ride cycling event when it returns to Bolton on Sunday, June 7.
One of fifteen major events taking place across the country this summer, Sky Ride Bolton will once again take place in and around the town centre – and all the streets will be closed to traffic.
A total of almost 20,000 cyclists have taken to the streets of Bolton for Sky Ride big bike events in previous years.
Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and keen cyclist, Cllr John Byrne, said: “We are extremely pleased to be partnering with British Cycling and Sky for another year. We have been working with them since 2012 to bring Sky Ride events, and organised rides to encourage people to cycle more.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to cycle more regularly and Sky Ride Big Bike Events are the perfect way to get involved. Thousands of people turned out to last year’s event and it just shows that there are lots of people out there that are keen to give cycling a go.”
It doesn’t matter how old you are, how old your bike is, or how fast you ride – at Sky Ride Bolton it’s all about getting on your bike and having fun.
Sky Ride Ambassador, Sir Chris Hoy, added: “Sky Rides close towns and cities for big bike events so you can ride safely on traffic-free streets, with a huge festival atmosphere and loads to do both on and off the bike. They are great fun and a great way to get on your bike.’
British Cycling’s director of Recreation and Partnerships, Stewart Kellett, said: “2015 promises even better and more exciting events, and we want to see more people than ever riding their bikes on streets.
The bike experts at Halfords will again be on hand offering a free bike safety check (worth £14.99) to everyone who registers for Sky Ride Bolton, and will be there on the day to help out with any last-minute problems too.
