A leading luxury North West ice cream producer is opening its first outlet in Bolton town centre.

Fans of Frederick’s Ice Cream can now (Friday, May 11) buy the quality Italian ice cream from the Pavilion café, in Queen’s Park. What’s more, they can buy it every day as the café is so successful it’s now open seven days a week.

Fredericks has several outlets across the region, including one at Chill Factor-e in Manchester, but this is their first in Bolton town centre.

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Pavilion in Queen’s Park, near the town centre, opened in February.

And the café on site has been so successful it has now switched from opening at weekends to providing a full service seven days a week - open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday, and 11am and 5pm at weekends.

The mini ice cream parlour will sell nine flavours initially: vanilla; chocolate; strawberry; choc chip; rainbow; marshmallow; cookies and cream; honeycomb, and bubblegum. Flavours will be rotated over the summer.

Work on the Pavilion was completed as part of the latest phase of the Queen’s Park Lottery Project, which involved the creation of the Pavilion and refurbishment of the existing Park Lodge.

Council bosses hope that in addition to local residents, town centre office workers; students at the university and colleges, and visitors to the town will all flock towards the park and Pavilion, now that the café has extended its opening hours.

Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Cleaner, Greener, Safer, Councillor Elaine Sherrington, said: “I am delighted the Pavilion is already proving to be such a success and the café is becoming a popular local venue in its own right. By opening seven days a week we hope it will provide refreshments and a place to relax in the sun, and a place to shelter and stay warm when the weather isn’t so good.

“Visitors to the café can enjoy simple, good quality food, such as paninis, ice cream, and Fair Trade coffee while children can play nearby in a newly refurbished children’s play area.”

The Pavilion provides a community-focused facility comprising the café with terrace seating for warm days; car park; toilet facilities incorporating special facilities for disabled adults and children and a large multi-functional activity room, which is available for hire by local community groups, businesses and by individuals for private functions such as parties.

The activity room, along with a separate consulting room, is already in use by the council for its local area forum and by council partners delivering services to the local community.

The QEII Pavilion is managed through staff at The Albert Halls in Bolton who are responsible for the day to day delivery, including taking bookings and managing the café/catering function. The facility can be booked by calling 01204 334433.
