Road scheme to cut accidents starts

An £80,000 scheme for Park Road, Westhoughton to cut the number of people hurt in accidents starts today (Monday, November 16).

The scheme has been brought in after one person was killed and 15 people injured in the last three years.

Bolton Council is now making the pedestrian islands on the road bigger. Engineers will also be installing kerb build outs and road markings to encourage motorists to stick to a safe speed.

The scheme has also been backed by residents. Consultation carried out has shown that 81 per cent of the respondents were in favour of the proposals.

The works will take place between the Chequerbent Roundabout and Forest Drive.

The scheme will take about four weeks to complete, and the council will work hard to minimum disruption to motorists by carrying out the work at off peak times.
