Perceptions on disability

A new exhibition exploring the perceptions and issues surrounding disability is set to go on display in Bolton.

Entitled Perceptions, the exhibition will be launched on Thursday, January 14 at the Neoartists Gallery in the Market Place.

The exhibition will feature a selection of art work, visual arts, creative writing, media and photography by people with a disability.

More than 25 disability arts groups – including BADGE and New Openings – have contributed to the exhibition, which is a collaboration between Bolton Council, Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, the Disability Arts Network in Wigan and Neoartists.

The project has been funded by the Arts Council, England.

Some of the issues tackled in the exhibition include equality, access, inclusion and recommendations on how to improve the community.

To coincide with the exhibition, the groups have also produced a DVD documenting the project and a book featuring their top 10 recommendations for improvement.

The book is intended to be used by disability partnerships in both Bolton and Wigan as a reference tool.

Perceptions runs at the Neoartists Gallery on the first floor of the Market Place, Bolton until February 7.

Opening times are Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 5.30pm and Sundays from 11am to 5pm. Admission is free.
