Bolton’s new Mayor will process through the town centre as part of the Civic Sunday celebrations this Sunday, May 22.
The traditional event usually attracts hundreds of participants and well-wishers as the new incumbent is welcomed to the role.
This year’s first citizen is Councillor Lynda Byrne who has received the chains of office from former Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Carole Swarbrick.
On Civic Sunday, she will walk out onto the town hall steps at around 2.30pm - accompanied by other civic dignitaries - to meet the parade.
There will be a number of military organisations involved in the procession and representatives from organisations across the borough.
The procession will set off from Victoria Square at 2.35pm and make its way to Bolton Parish Church, where a service will commence at 3pm.
The service will be conducted by the vicar of Bolton, Revd Canon Matt Thompson and will feature songs by Bennetts Choir and Bolton St Catherine’s Academy Junior School.
The new mayor, Councillor Lynda Byrne, encouraged people to come along and be part of the event.
She said: “Civic Sunday will be really special for me, in my new role as Bolton’s mayor. I would love for as many people as possible to come along and be a part of the occasion.”
