Bolton Council has started work on a new £500,000 café in Moss Bank Park.

The cafe, which replaces one destroyed by a fire in 2009, will include a kitchen, serving area, toilets and seating for around 50 customers, with a further outdoor seating area for use in the spring and summer.

The café has been designed by local architects Bradshaw Gass & Hope and is being built by local builders Jackson, Jackson & Sons.

The money for the café has come from insurance money from the previous café, one-off savings and a contribution from a £2m programme to invest in parks, green space and recreational facilities around the borough.

As part of the £2m investment programme, the council will also be investing over £600,000 across other playing fields, £300,000 in refurbishing tennis courts across the borough, over £200,000 on new and refurbishing multi-use games areas, approximately £150,000 on cycle trails and £60,000 on Bolton’s first outdoor gym.

Councillor John Byrne, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Community Services said: “Its brilliant that work has started on this new café, which will provide a place for visitors to stop for a coffee and chat, or even for lunch. It will be situated close to the popular children’s play area and also close to ‘The Hive’, where children can learn about nature and growing things, so we hope it will be well used by the local community and also by visitors to the park.”
