Bolton’s new Mayor, Councillor Guy Harkin, will be at the head of the traditional Civic Sunday procession this Sunday that will make its way through the town centre to Bolton Parish Church.
Residents and well-wishers are encouraged to watch the procession on May 20 which this year will be led by parade commander Major Taylor-Jane Fox of the 216 Battery Royal Artillery (Volunteers) Bolton.
The parade will form up on Victoria Square at 2.20pm and the civic party will assemble on the town hall steps by 2.30pm.
At 2.35pm, the procession will leave the square and make its way to the church via Hotel Street, Mealhouse Lane, Deansgate and into Churchgate.
Joining the procession will be The Hoover Bolton Band and The Lancashire Artillery RA (V) Band, along with local sea cadets, representatives from the emergency services, local scout and guide groups and other dignitaries and organisations.
The service at Bolton Parish Church will start at 3pm and will be followed by refreshments served in the town hall for those taking part in the parade.
New mayor, Councillor Harkin, said: “Civic Sunday is always a special event and gives the people of Bolton the chance to pay their respects to the armed forces and other such organisations while welcoming the new First Citizen.
“I would urge everyone to come along and share in the town’s civic pride and show their support for those on parade.”
