There are only days left to vote for Bolton Market in a national competition.
The competition to find Britain’s favourite market is organised by the National Association of British Market Authorities and it is judged purely on the public’s vote.
The award promotes and celebrates the importance of local markets where high standards of service, products and good practice can be found.
Shoppers can register their vote online until Thursday, January 13 by visiting the link on the right hand side and clicking on the apple image.
Councillor Akhtar Zaman, Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services, said: “The market is good value for money and sells a huge range of fresh, quality produce. In 2010 we were crowned Best Indoor Market of the year and this would be another massive boost for us. I’d urge the market’s loyal customers to go online and vote for Bolton Market.”
The market has a growing reputation as the premier food market in the North West, and it has gained a number of famous fans including Si King and Dave Myers from The Hairy Bikers, Thomasina Miers and celebrity chef Tom Bridge.
Tom said: “I’ve been shopping at the market for 30 years and it has got to be the best local market in the country. It’s better value than any supermarket, local to everyone and you can actually see what you’re buying. I’ve voted for the market to win and I’d urge everyone else to do the same.”
The market’s team regularly schedule in cookery events at the kitchen with partners like NHS Bolton and organise free competitions.
More than 2.5 million people visit the market annually, which sells everything from fish to fabric, gifts and plants.
The indoor and outdoor market is open Tuesday and Thursday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
