A business based in Bolton Market is so full of beans it is set to open a second coffee shop in the town centre next week.
The Coffee Grind, owned by Jill and Nigel Lyons, will expand into additional premises in Newport Street and open its doors to customers at 9am on Monday (June 20), following a full refit and refurbishment of an empty unit.
Jill and Nigel have been helped by a grant from Bolton Council, which will be used towards business rates and rent costs.
They opened their first Coffee Grind unit in Bolton Market’s Lifestyle Hall in January 2014.
And the independent coffee shop proved such a huge hit with market customers that the couple decided to expand the business.
Boltonian Jill, from Smithills, said they wanted to stay in Bolton and when they heard about the council’s multi-million redevelopment of Newport Street, they knew that they wanted to open on the thoroughfare.
She said: “We’re so proud of Bolton. I’m Bolton born and bred, and Nigel’s a Cockney but loves Bolton now too.
“We’re ready to expand and wanted to stay in Bolton. We have had so much support and encouragement from the council, and the market management.
“I think the new shop fronts look fantastic, and once all the paving is done, the street will look more modern. Also when the new Interchange opens, we can really cater for bus and train commuters.”
The Newport Street shop will offer a selection of breakfast items, sandwiches, paninis, frappes, milkshakes, along with a whole new range of coffees and teas.
Jill was quick to assure her market customers that the unit at Bolton Market would still keep operating.
“We have a super base of customers who come to us week in and week out there, and we are staying open,” she said.
Bolton Council Leader, Cllr Cliff Morris, added: “It’s absolutely brilliant news that The Coffee Grind is opening up on Newport Street.
“They are a real Bolton success story. An independent, successful business which started in our award-winning market, and now expanding but staying true to their roots and staying in the heart of the town centre.
“This is exactly what we were hoping would happen when we started our redevelopment of Newport Street and I’d like to wish Jill and Nigel the best of luck with their new shop.”
The Coffee Grind, on Newport Street, will open 6.30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. The couple has taken over the new premises on a seven year lease.
The improvement work to the shop frontages form part of a £3 million council redevelopment scheme for Newport Street. Up to £2 million will be spent on renovating shop fronts and £1 million on improving the street with new paving, seating, street lights and trees.
The internal refit and refurbishment of The Coffee Grind has been carried out by Lancashire Construction.
