Bolton Market is celebrating the nation’s love of British cuisine by taking part in British Food Fortnight.
Bolton Council is launching a local ‘Love British Food’ campaign on Thursday, September 16.
British Food Fortnight is a national campaign to celebrate the delicious and diverse food and drink around the country.
The council’s two-week campaign runs until Thursday, September 30, with live cookery demos and top prizes up for grabs.
A highlight of the fortnight is celebrity chef Tom Bridge launching his brand new book ‘Pie Society’ at the market.
Tom will also kick off the campaign with a British-themed cookery demo on Thursday September 16 at the cookery kitchen, in the market, at 11am. Visitors can also see the Love Food Hate Waste team cooking up tasty meals with leftovers.
AMC Ultimate Cookware will be using the kitchen demo area to promote their cookware throughout the fortnight. And for those who would like to host the perfect dinner party with minimum hassle, the company is offering an indulgent ‘come dine with me’ experience and a £350 cookware voucher for one lucky person.
A team of their chefs will go to the winner’s house and cook a three-course meal for up to eight people.
To enter the competition, entrants need to log on to the ‘Real Food’ page at the Real Radio website from September 16 and answer the simple question. Runners-up can also win meals at Egerton House’s Dining Room Restaurant and Holiday Inn Bolton Centre.
Other events on the menu include a Community Health Nutrition team from NHS Bolton, rustling up healthy dishes on Friday, September 24 from 11am to 2pm.
Bolton Market staff will also be giving out fruit and veg to help students make their five-a-day, at the University of Bolton Fresher’s Fair on Tuesday, September 28.
Traders will also be putting special promotions on British products.
Councillor Akhtar Zaman, Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services, said: “We are very lucky in Bolton to have such a wonderful market which stocks fresh quality foods and diverse produce all at great prices. The food fortnight is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our award-winning market and to celebrate British food.”
Bolton Market was crowned Best Indoor Market 2010 by the National Association of British Market Authorities earlier this year.
