Making our streets safer

18/01/11

Visitors to Bolton town centre have shared their views to improve safety.

A survey is available which people can fill in to give their views and by the end of last month 214 people had already done so.

They raised concerns about antisocial behaviour; and some groups of young people causing problems on Victoria Square.

To tackle these problems the Be Safe Partnership:

  • Carried out a campaign to encourage people to drink responsibly. It included handing out bottled water to encourage people to drink water between alcoholic drinks.
  • Is reviewing town centre off-licences to make sure they are not selling alcohol to underage youths.
  • Is collecting details of any young people found to be causing antisocial behaviour around the town hall steps, and writing to their parents. If the antisocial behaviour continues, further measures can be taken.
