Bolton Council has reopened a play area damaged by fire, with a local boy as guest of honour.
Thomas Webb, aged six, was left devastated after vandals damaged Suffolk Close Park in Little Lever at the end of September.
The Masefield Primary School pupil offered to donate all the money he has been saving and collecting in his piggy bank over the past three years towards the repair bill.
The play area has now been redeveloped and made safe again so Thomas and his friends can once again enjoy the equipment.
And when the council announced the play area was going to be reinstated following the work, they looked no further than Thomas as the ideal guest to officially declare it open.
Councillor David Chadwick, Cabinet Member for Highways said: “Following the damage to the play area, we were very touched that Thomas offered us all of his money to repair the equipment.
Now that we have been able to repair the play equipment, we were delighted to invite him back to reopen it for us.”
