A range of events are on offer at Bolton Museum and Library Service as part of Adult Learners’ Week (May 14 to 20).

From learning about your family history to knowing how to create an impressive CV, there is something for all tastes and abilities.

All events are free of charge. However, some should be booked in advance to guarantee a place.

The first session takes place on Saturday, May 14 with life drawing and portraits at Bolton Museum and the week concludes with a “silver surfers” internet taster session at Oxford Grove Library on Friday, May 20.

This year marks the 20th Adult Learners’ Week and the event promotes the benefits of all kinds of learning, whether it is for fun or to lead to a qualification.

Bolton’s events are organised by Bolton Council and Bolton College.

Saturday, May 14 - Life Drawing and Portraits, Bolton Art Gallery, 10am to 2pm.

Saturday, May 14 - Open University Information Desk, Bolton Central Library, 9.30am to 4.30pm. Meet Open University tutors and see what’s available. Contact Ann Hall on 01204 332853.

Saturday, May 14 - Family History Taster, Bolton Central Library Lecture Theatre, 11am to noon. Family history for beginners with Bolton Family History Society. Learn how to research your family tree. No need to book.

Monday, May 16 to Friday, May 20 - One to One Family History Sessions, Bolton History Centre, Bolton Museum, 9.30am to 11.30am. Free half hour session with a researcher from the Bolton Family History Society or a member of staff from the History Centre. Pre-booking is essential, contact 01204 332185.

Tuesday, May 17 - Ilustration Workshop, Bolton Central Library, 1pm to 3pm. A practical guide to illustrating text. Julia Ogden, an accomplished illustrator and artist will demonstrate ways that texts can be illustrated.

Tuesday, May 17 - Creative Writing Workshop, Bolton Central Library, 2pm to 3.30pm.

Wednesday, May 18 - Make a Memory Box, Bolton Museum, 2pm to 4pm. Create your own treasure box of precious memories. To book, contact 01204 332211 or ask at the museum desk in advance.

Wednesday, May 18 and Wednesday 25 May - CV Builder, Bolton Central Library, 9.30am to noon. Help with building a brilliant CV. Feel free to bring along your existing CV or qualifications. To book on either session, contact 01204 332166.

Thursday, May 19 - But what is in that painting? Heaton Library, 1pm to 3pm. Why is the Mona Lisa so famous and other questions will be answered.
