A rare chance to gain an insight into the music industry from the experts is being offered to Bolton’s budding musicians.
Bolton Council and The University of Bolton are to present four master classes featuring key figures in the UK music industry.
From publicists to tour managers, the experts cover a broad spectrum of the music industry and have a wealth of experience and advice to share with the town’s contemporary musicians.
The workshops, held at The University of Bolton’s Deane Road Campus, are free of charge but places are limited so must be booked in advance.
Workshop one will take place on Wednesday, November 25 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and will feature former BBC publicist turned freelance art and music PR consultant Kate Butler.
The workshop aims to guide musicians in their first steps toward raising their profile online, in print and on air.
From 6pm to 9pm on November 25, Mike Walsh, Head of Music at Xfm will look at changes in consumer behaviour, how business is evolving and new opportunities. Musicians will have the chance to pitch their music to Mike and receive on-the-spot feedback.
The third workshop will take place on Friday, November 27 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and features Dave Lawrence and Ron Atkinson.
Dave Lawrence is a well respected tour manager who has recently worked with Dizzee Rascal, Massive Attack and Madness. He is also production manager for the Manchester International Festival and the Versus Cancer music events.
Ron was head of band signing at ZTT Records, of All Saints, Gabrielle and Seal fame, was tour manager for Genesis and worked for the Charisma Label.
The workshop will cover a range of tour-related questions, a practical guide to planning a tour and budget management.
Finally, Ron will return on December 1 between 1.30pm and 4.30pm and be joined by Rob Adamson for a workshop on publishing.
Rob works for publishing company Reverb, which has had releases for Will Young, the Sugababes and Turin Brakes and has writers that have created hits for Take That and Delta Goodrem.
