The Market Place Shopping Centre has unveiled exciting plans to celebrate the opening of The Light Cinema and the town’s newest dining destination, The Vaults.
The centre will be officially launching the cinema, with an event for invited guests, on October 20.
The main event will be an exclusive screening of the second Jack Reacher movie ‘Never go back’ - the latest thriller starring Tom Cruise.
Guests will be entertained by a selection of movie themed props and characters including roaming paparazzi, mime artists and movie stars.
A selection of popular movie soundtracks will be performed by a 28-piece swing band called ‘The Managers’.
Invited guests will enjoy welcome drinks and food from a mixture of eateries at the centre. And Carrs Pasties, which will be opening in the centre in November, will also be supplying baked pastries.
The whole town is invited to join the celebrations on Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23 to mark the completion of the Market Place’s £20 million redevelopment.
The town hall will be adorned with a cinema backdrop and even the lion statues will be dressed for the occasion in top hats and bow ties. Victoria Square will be home to a big screen which will show trailers of the latest film releases.
Seating will be provided so that visitors can soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the entertainment.
Silent movie characters, living movie star statues and giant Oscar statues, a giant film reel and camera and other items will provide photo opportunities for the public to enjoy.
Bolton will also have its very own ‘Hollywood walk of fame’ with local celebrity names appearing on Market Street, leading visitors to the Market Place.
The Octagon Theatre will also be showcasing the town’s talent with costumed actors to meet and greet visitors and drum up excitement.
Plus the opening of The Entertainer, one of Market Place’s newest stores, will coincide with the weekend festivities and The Entertainer’s very own Jack in the Box will likely make an appearance in the town centre.
The Light, which opened on Friday, October 7, is the first cinema to operate in the town centre since 1998 and makes a valuable addition to Bolton’s leisure offering.
Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, said: “It’s fantastic to see a cinema open again in Bolton town centre.
“The feedback since it launched last week has been very positive and it is yet another superb attraction, in a flagship development, that will cater for the whole family.
“We still have work to do but it has been a year of transformation for the town. The £20 million redevelopment of the Market Place brings a whole new shopping and leisure experience in the town centre.”
General Manager at The Light, Jamie Atherton, added: “We're delighted to be open now. The cinema looks and feels better than I ever imagined it would. Our staff have taken to it brilliantly and we can't wait for a busy half term and Christmas.”
Centre Manager, Nikki Wilson-Cook, said: “The opening of The Light is the jewel in the centre’s crown and marks the end of a unique and exciting redevelopment project - so it is only fitting that we celebrate in style.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming both our special guests and the general public to enjoy all the new opportunities that Market Place has to offer.”
