History of home at Bolton Museum

Actress Shirley Ann Field will be guest of honour at an event at Bolton Museum, Aquarium and Archive on Wednesday, August 26.

Visitors are invited to hear about the history of Edgworth Children’s Home, where she used to live with her brother.

The children’s home was set up by Action for Children, formerly known as National Children’s Home and closed in 2002 after 130 years.

The charity is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year and has joined forces with the museum to showcase the children’s home archives.

The event will take place in the Lecture Theatre at the museum, from noon to 2pm, and will feature talks by Shirley Ann Field and Anita Forth, a former staff member of the home and Edgworth historian.

There will also be an exhibition of memorabilia focusing on the start of the organisation and photos of some of the home’s first children.
