Dennis Booth, from Radcliffe, was one of three lucky winners each winning £100 in Asda vouchers after completing a survey about attitudes to health, fitness and leisure in Farnworth.
During July and August 2011 research was undertaken with current, past and non-users of Farnworth Leisure Centre, resulting in 557 completed questionnaires being returned
The research was commissioned by Bolton Community Leisure Trust which oversees the development of Bolton’s leisure centres in association with Bolton Council and Serco.
The survey asked what people thought about their local leisure centres and pools and what could be done to persuade them to become more active and improve their health and fitness.
Farnworth Leisure Centre received positive feedback on the quality of its reception staff, the value for money it offered and its ease of access for local people. However, people wanted to see improvements to the changing facilities and larger, cleaner, and more modern facilities and more gym equipment.
The feedback is being incorporated in the Trust’s development plans which include the option of extending Farnworth Leisure Centre to provide new changing rooms and a larger fitness suite and dance studio.
February 2012 will see the launch of Bolton One, a new flagship health and leisure complex for the town, providing a state of the art competition standard pool, 70-station gym, dance studio, community gym and hydrotherapy pool. This was welcomed by respondents with 9 out of 10 people saying they are likely to try the new pool and gym facilities.
Inayat Omarji, Trustee of Bolton Community Leisure Trust, says: “Customers are telling us what we are doing right and what we can improve upon. This is helping us shape the future development of sports and leisure for local communities in Bolton. We will continue to listen to what they have to say and look at ways to improve services for them.”
An Asda spokesman said: “Asda are very proud to support the local community and initiatives that aim to improve health, fitness and healthy eating. Asda Farnworth is very close to its customers and is always looking for ways to help local projects.”
