Residents can get a green loan for energy efficiency improvements and appliances for their homes.
The loan is interest free, provided that all the loan repayments are paid on time, and proof is provided that the loan has been spent for energy efficiency measures. Those who own their home or rent can apply.
It can be used to pay for: cavity wall insulation; loft insulation; heating systems; heating controls and to buy appliances such as fridges or washing machines, which are ‘A’ rated and other energy saving measures.
The Green Loan Initiative is being run by the Bolton Council and Hoot Wise with Money Credit Union.
Applicants need to be a member of Hoot Bolton Credit Union to be eligible for a loan and all loans are subject to approval. Repayments of the loan will be spread for up to three years at a low interest rate.
At the end of the loan (provided that all repayments were made on time) on provision of proof of purchase and if it meets the Green Loan Initiative criteria, individuals will receive a refund of any interest paid on the loan.
Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Housing, Councillor Nick Peel, said: “This is a great way of saving energy and money, as well as helping to cut carbon emissions. I’d encourage people to get in touch to find out more.”
