Queens Park in Bolton will be staging two exciting events simultaneously this Sunday August 4.
First of all, the Rock It! Festival returns to provide a myriad of melodious entertainment for music lovers of all ages and families looking for a day out with a difference.
Led by young people, Rock It! is a programme which strives to create new bands, new music, performance opportunities and live music industry training.
Delivered with the support of Bolton Council and funded by Youth Music and the Big Lottery Fund, Rock It! will feature over ten live bands on the main stage from 12 noon to 6pm in Queens Park.
On top of this, there is also a Get Active event in the park featuring some great activities with something to please everyone.
Songsmith Solar will be showcasing their novel, eco-friendly, solar powered stage and sound system and will entertain audiences with four acts: ‘Lazlo Baby’, who will play gypsy-inspired music from the Balkans; ‘Specs’, aka Kieran Gallimore, a multi-instrumentalist songwriter who mixes 80′s pop, soukous, cajun and folk music to produce his unique sound ; ‘Harp and a Monkey’, electro-folk storytellers who play acoustically-fuelled traditional music with a contemporary twist; and ‘Flat Cap 3’ who will be performing upbeat tunes from way back when to the present day including rock ‘n’ roll, folk, reggae and swing.
Extreme activity lovers can try the UK's largest mobile zip slide, which starts from a height of 28’, the Mont Blanc high rope challenge with platforms towering 13 feet above the ground, and the rock climbing wall, while the more cautious can try gladiator jousting, a rodeo bull ride or archery.
Other spectacles to enjoy will include a ukulele workshop, family arts and crafts, face painting, henna tattoos, street artists, a magician and a family fun fair.
Councillor John Byrne, Executive Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Community Services, said: “There's so much to do this Sunday at Queens Park. It is satisfying to be able to present such a full and varied programme and to showcase some of our younger local talents. Bring along the whole family for a great day out”.
