Thousands of car parking spaces in Bolton town centre will be free of charge after 3pm each weekday from Monday, October 26.
Council bosses have announced the offer as a festive treat for shoppers using the multi-storey car parks at Deane Road, the Octagon and Topp Way.
This is in addition to the free weekend and Bank Holiday parking on offer already at these sites.
The free after 3pm parking initiative will run until December 31, 2015. Parking will also be free all day Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.
The council’s partners NCP, who operate Deane Road, the Octagon and Topp Way are implementing the scheme.
Leader of Bolton Council, Councillor Cliff Morris, said: “We want to do everything we can to encourage more people into town and to support our town centre businesses, particularly in the run up to Christmas and New Year.
“This is the third year we’ve done this and the feedback from retailers is that extending the free parking scheme on to weekdays during the festive period, has a positive impact on their sales.
“We’re also planning a special festive winter programme this year and the free parking extension will help support this.”
Details of the council’s winter festival will be released soon.
