Free swimming sessions and free exercise classes are up for grabs at Bolton One to celebrate its opening in February.
Every Bolton resident can take advantage of the free swimming sessions and there are 2,012 exercise classes available on a first come, first served basis to coincide with the 2012 Olympics.
Bolton One, a £30.6 million health, leisure and research complex, is opening on February 1.
The council is providing state of the art leisure facilities including a 25 metre town centre pool, 70-station gym, fitness suite and an aerobics studio.
Free swimming is currently available to residents aged 16 and under or 60 and over but council chiefs have extended the offer to give everyone the opportunity to visit Bolton One.
A total of 2,012 free sport sessions are also on offer for all residents including: zumba; Bollyrobics; spinning; yoga, and circuits.
The exercise classes last 30 minutes and will run throughout February, between noon and 5.30pm. The council’s partners Serco, who are managing the day-to-day operation of the facilities, will run the classes.
Those interested in receiving a voucher entitling them to the free swimming offer or securing a place at one of the classes should go to the Bolton One shop, ground floor Wellsprings building, opposite the Town Hall, with proof of identification. Exercise classes will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Bolton One is a partnership between Bolton Council, NHS Bolton, and the University of Bolton.
Leader of Bolton Council, Councillor Cliff Morris, said: “Bolton One is for all the community and we want everyone to come along and have a go. One of our key priorities is improving the health of our residents. And we hope that by offering the free swimming and free classes, people will find something that they enjoy.
“The opening of Bolton One is also just a few months before the Olympic Games start so we thought having 2,012 free classes was a good way to mark the occasion.”
Activities are available on a pay as you go basis as well as value for money membership packages.
Memberships for Bolton One start at £15.99 (swim-only), £24.99 (swim and gym) and £29.99 (swim, gym and classes). Discounts are available if you purchase an annual pass. you do not need to be a member to use Bolton One. For more information visit the website.
The University of Bolton also has a sports hall and 50ft climbing wall within Bolton One, which will be open to the public from February 27.
Sports centre manager, Pozz Lonsdale, added: “The University will be providing facilities for indoor sports, from badminton to trampolining to five a-side football within Bolton One and those facilities are for everyone. The University will also be providing a new climbing wall facility, one of the highest in the region. Full details of prices and opening times will be available next month.”
