Festival of ageing launch

02/07/18

A special festival to celebrate the joys of getting older will take place on Tuesday, July 3.

The Festival of Ageing will launch on Victoria Square at 11.30am and residents are invited to come along to try out some activities and sign up for something that will improve their health.

This celebratory event is being held as part of a Greater Manchester campaign.

A range of activities, including yoga, dane, ballet, tai-chi and singing will be available as part of the celebrations.

The Festival of Ageing began across Greater Manchester on July 2 and finishes on July 15.

Councillor Debbie Newall, Executive Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “I would like to invite everyone to come along to Bolton’s festival of ageing. It’s a celebration of how, if you look after yourself and live well through your adult life, then you can age well.

“There will be lots of organisations there on the day showcasing all of the opportunities in Greater Manchester to stay physically and mentally fit by keeping active, engaging with others, eating well and by being connected with others to avoid becoming lonely.

“The initiative is part of our work to make Bolton and Greater Manchester an Age Friendly town and supports our local aims to keep everybody active and connected.

“Our Vision 2030 strategy prioritises the theme of Ageing Well alongside Starting and Living Well. All three are about having healthy lifestyles, eating healthily, exercising, keeping an active mind and being connected.”

The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Elaine Sherrington, will formally close the event at 3.30pm.

In Bolton a wide range of activities are available from gardening to swimming, coffee mornings and peer support groups to drama and dance.
