Smithills Hall’s Garden Party this Sunday (25 July) is the perfect way to start the summer holidays.
Taking place from noon until 4pm, one of the highlights is sure to be the Garden Party Dog Show. Pets can compete in categories including: mini agility; obedience; cutest pup; catch the sausage; the dog the judge would most like to take home; and a special prize for the best in show. Entry to each category is just £1.
For those on two legs, a range of live music with local brass bands, magic, balloon modelling, flintknapping demonstrations (making stone arrows by hand), a climbing wall, and face painting is available.
There are also some more hands-on activities such as arts and crafts and quill pen writing. Arts and crafts activities include making dog masks, making whirligigs and building a memory tree.
Two Wii Sports tournaments will be taking place inside Smithills Hall from 12.30pm until 2pm and 2.30pm until 4pm. Registration is based on a first come, first served basis half an hour before each contest, and there are prizes for the winner.
Anyone wanting to have their nails painted at the event will find students from the Beauty School at Bolton Community College on hand. Meanwhile, anyone looking for a bargain can browse through a range of craft stalls selling everything from vintage accessories and African jewellery to a bric-a-brac stall.
Food and drink will be available, from local black pudding to hotdogs and ice cream.
Entry to the grounds is free for all. Entry to Smithills Hall on the day is £1 for adults and concessions. Children visit free. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
