Residents in Crompton are being urged to help tidy up the area where they live.

A major clean up event is taking place on Monday, June 6 and the whole community is invited to get involved as part of the Big Bolton Tidy Up campaign.

The event will take place from 1pm to 3pm and has been organised by Bolton Council in partnership with the police, Crompton Children’s Centre, The Valley Primary School, Contour Housing Association and Bolton Wanderers Community Trust.

Pupils from the school will be joined by their parents and other members of the community as they take part in litter picking around the Crompton area.

Recycling officers from the council will also be on hand to offer advice on how to recycle correctly.

There will also be a special appearance by Lofty the Lion, the Bolton Wanderers mascot.

Anyone interested in joining in the clean up can turn up on the day to the school, in Hibbert Street and they will be provided with Big Bolton Tidy Up tabards, litter pickers and rubbish bags.

Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Cleaner, Greener, Safer, Councillor Elaine Sherrington, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people living in the Crompton area to take ownership of the appearance of their community.

“I hope people from all sections of the community will get involved and help to make a real difference to where they live.”
