The votes cast today in the Crompton ward by-election have been counted, and Labour candidate Guy Harkin has been elected as councillor.
Guy Harkin received 1,528 of the votes cast, with the Conservative candidate, Kath Kavanagh receiving 935.
Of the remaining votes, the independent candidate Mohmed Alli received 377 votes, Liberal Democrat Anne Warren obtained 284 votes, while Green Party candidate Angela Tibke received 99 votes. 17 ballot papers were rejected.
With some 3,240 votes cast, the turn out for the by-election was approximately 31 per cent.
The election was held following the resignation of Councillor Emma Scowcroft.
