A local trader had to pay £400 costs after importing unfit cassava dough.
Jerome Ngamba, of Avenue Street, Bolton was ordered to pay the costs of destroying the food, at Bolton Magistrates Court on Friday 2 October.
Bolton Council’s environmental health officers visited a storage container at Nortex Mills, Chorley Old Road after receiving a complaint from a member of the public and discovered hundreds of cassava dough bags.
The bags displayed mould growth and a heavy fly infestation was found in the container. After a laboratory analysis, the dough was found to be contaminated with nematode worms.
Magistrates granted the council a food condemnation order, after the food was deemed to be unfit for human consumption and destruction of the food was ordered.
