Tonge residents are invited to take part in the first ever Tonge community carnival and parade, which will take place at Castle Hill Centre car park on Sunday 18 July from 1-4pm.
The event is free and promises a great variety of entertainment and a chance to enjoy the fun and attractions with the rest of the community.
The carnival will be opened by Councillor Elaine Sherrington and will kick off in style with a ‘Disney themed’ parade including children from local primary schools, the Children’s Centre, local Brownies, junior football teams and representatives from local community groups. The parade will also include a Chinese lion, salsa band, bag pipes, stilt walkers and jugglers.
The rest of the event promises to be just as exciting with face painting, inflatable slides, fairground rides and a climbing wall.
There will also be a fantastic line-up of live performances throughout the afternoon by Bolton Children’s Workshop, St Catherine’s Academy, the Tonge with the Haulgh community choir and martial art demonstrations.
Local people will also be showing off their broadcasting skills after receiving training from Bolton FM. A marquee at the event will host the ‘Big Lunch’ where for 50p residents from the area can enjoy lunch together whilst being entertained by local singer Corinne.
Linda Thomas, Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Corporate Resources and Health said: ”With so much great entertainment, the community of Tonge will be spoilt for choice. I would encourage everyone to go along to what promises to be a fantastic event and a great opportunity for everyone to come together in the community.”
