Bolton Council has signed up to the Climate Local commitment.
The initiative, launched by the Local Government Association, encourages councils to commit to taking local action to reduce carbon emissions, and improve their ability to protect residents and services from the anticipated effects of climate change.
The scheme supports Bolton Council’s current aims of reducing energy costs, reducing its carbon footprint and being prepared for extreme weather conditions.
The council together with the Cleaner and Greener Partnership has now drawn up a list of local commitments which cover topics such as renewable energy, fuel poverty and sustainable transport.
Leader of Bolton Council, Councillor Cliff Morris, said: “Signing up to Climate Local reinforces the council’s commitment to the environment.
“We want to improve the quality of life of Bolton’s residents and we are working hard to address the issues of climate change.”
The Cleaner Greener Partnership is a Bolton partnership working towards the environmental vision and targets of the Bolton Community Strategy.
