Opening times

Christmas and New Year are coming and council staff in our one-stop shops, contact centre and libraries will be available around the key days to help and advise as usual.

  • Offices will close at 4pm on Tuesday, 24 December and will re-open on Friday, 27 December.
  • Offices will close at 4pm on New Year’s Eve and re-open on Thursday, 2 January.

Bins and recycling

This year, waste and recycling collections that are due to take place on:

  • Wednesday 25 December will be carried out on Saturday 28 December 2013
  • Thursday 26 December will be carried out on Sunday 29 December 2013
  • Wednesday 1 January will be carried out on Saturday 4 January 2014

Collections will return to normal on Thursday 2 January 2014.

There are no changes to any other collection days during the festive period.

The majority of waste produced at Christmas can be recycled, but if you still have excess waste or recycling it can be taken to one of our Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Recycle your Christmas Trees

This year Bolton Council is working in partnership with Bolton Community Transport Furniture Services to recycle real Christmas trees.

For a charge of £10, Bolton Community Transport Furniture Services will arrange to have your Christmas tree collected and recycled.

Call 01204 364777 before Wednesday 8 January 2014 to arrange collection. Alternatively, Christmas tree can be recycled free of charge at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

School term dates

Most schools close on Friday, 20 December and start back on Monday, 6 January. You can download all term dates for the next two years.

Please be aware that some school term dates do vary. The school should advise you in advance of any changes to their school term dates. If you are in any doubt, please contact the school directly.

Winter weather can be severe and quickly disrupt our daily lives, being better prepared can help us, our families and our communities to stay safe, warm and healthy throughout the winter. Bolton Council is supporting the national 'Get ready for winter' campaign and has produced information, to help you prepare for winter.
