A controlled explosion has now taken place after a jar containing a chemical was found.
At about 11am today, Friday, 20 September 2013, police were called to a house on Royston Avenue, Tonge Moor, following reports that a chemical had been found in a jar.
Police and fire officers arrived at the scene and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team were called out to examine the jar.
Officers are now allowing people back into their homes.
Sean Harris, Chief Executive of Bolton Council said: “We are pleased that this incident has been successfully dealt with.
We worked closely with the school and the emergency services to handle the incident.
We hope that the residents and pupils will now be able to return to normality.”
Deborah Hopwood, Headteacher of Moorgate Primary School said: “We were informed that a substance of concern was discovered on Royston Avenue, Tonge Moor.
“The school remained open until usual closing time of 3.30pm. However, after school clubs were closed and all parents of children who were attending after school clubs were contacted and collected children as normal.”
