Bolton Market has been chosen as the venue for a prestigious book launch.
Celebrity chef Tom Bridge will be launching his new book Pie Society on the last day of Bolton Council’s Love British Food fortnight.
Tom visits and cooks regularly at the market, on Ashburner Street, and has promoted the venue in his book as the ideal place to buy good quality, fresh ingredients for pies and pastries.
There will be a book signing session at the market kitchen, from 11am until 1pm, on Thursday, September 30 to mark the launch of the book.
The market will also feature in a documentary about pies that will be broadcast worldwide. FA Premier League Productions are filming “Pies on the Terrace” and are coming to speak to Tom about his new book on Thursday. The programme will be aired in the United Arab Emirates at a later date.
The council’s campaign was aimed at encouraging people to eat fresh, local produce and saw a number of demos by top chefs in the market. Chefs also visited schools to speak to young people about British food.
Councillor Akhtar Zaman, Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services, said: “It’s great that Tom has chosen to launch his book at the market, as part of our campaign. The market has a growing reputation as the premier food market in the North West, with a huge variety of fresh produce on offer at great prices.
“Tom has done a lot of cookery demos at the market and I’m sure he would agree that Bolton Market really is going from strength to strength.”
Tom Bridge added: “Bolton Market is at the hub of the town centre. It sells the freshest and best produce with a value for money price tag, what more could a valued customer ask for? Pies are good to eat as part of a balanced diet and my book is all about savoury pies which you can make with fresh ingredients.”
More than 2.5 million people visit the market annually, which sells everything from fish to fabric, gifts and plants.
The market was awarded the title of Britain's Best Indoor Market Hall by the National Association of British Market Authorities earlier in the year.
The indoor and outdoor market is open Tuesday and Thursday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm. The car boot market is open Sunday, 7.30am to 2pm.
