Bolton’s biggest ever celebration of all that’s great about the borough is continuing to grow as some of the town’s most famous sons and daughters are lining up to show their support.

From Radio One DJ Sara Cox to boxing sensation and WBA World Light-Welterweight Champion, Amir Khan, celebrities are lining up to sign the One Bolton pledge and support the concept of Bolton as a welcoming and tolerant town.

Other celebrities standing up to be counted include comedian Dave Spikey, Stu Francis, Bolton-born chef Paul Heathcote and singing sensation Laura White.

Laura White commented: “It’s the people that make a town and an area special. Bolton is a friendly and welcoming place, where people are always ready to have a laugh and to help each other out. I grew up there and I love going back home whenever I can. When I get asked where I’m from I always feel proud to say Bolton as for me there is nowhere quite like it. I’m really pleased to support the One Bolton pledge, which shows it is a diverse yet united place.”

The One Bolton pledge says: “We celebrate the diversity of Bolton and unite to create One Bolton, recognising differences, celebrating communities and commit to encouraging harmony.”

The pledge is directly linked to the Big Bolton Fund (BBF) and encourages supporters of One Bolton to pledge money to the fund, which in turn will be used to support local community programmes across the borough.

The pledge can be signed online at www.boltonlife.org.uk, where residents can learn more and donate money to the BBF. Residents can also pick up a postcard to sign up to the pledge, which will be available at libraries and community centres across the borough.

Councillor Cliff Morris, Leader of Bolton Council commented: “Since One Bolton was introduced last summer as an eight-week programme of events, momentum has grown to develop a year-long calendar of activities.  The launch of the One Bolton pledge kick-started this year’s plans and Bolton Council is continuing to work closely with partners, key organisations and groups to encourage everyone to get involved.”

This year’s One Bolton programme is currently being compiled and includes a Community Day up at Bolton Wanderers on 24 April, a charity football match up at Reebok on 25 May as well as a fantastic range of community-based events all over the borough. Further details for all events can be can be found online at www.boltonlife.org.uk
