A new bus lane will come into effect in Bolton town centre on Monday, September 5.
The lane will run east to west along St George’s Road, between Bridge Street and Knowsley Street.
The additional lane will help buses get around the town centre more quickly and will reduce public transport journey times into the town centre.
It does mean general traffic will no longer be able to turn left from Bridge Street or right from Higher Bridge Street into St George’s Road.
Alternative routes are already available along Topp Way, past the multi-storey car park on Duke St to St George’s Road. Traffic travelling along St George’s Road from Marsden Rd/Topp Way will not be affected.
The work is part of Bolton Council’s overall Town Centre Transport Strategy which in addition to reducing congestion aims to complement the regeneration of the town centre.
