Local Bolton businesses in Johnson Fold and Doffcocker are working with Bolton Council and Recycle for Greater Manchester on the European Funded Up and Forward Project to improve recycling in the area.
Six local businesses are doing their bit to help spread the word of recycling amongst their customers by providing recycling information points with leaflets and guides, to help residents to recycle right.
As a thank you and to raise awareness amongst local residents, residents can also pick up a free re-usable bag for life.
As part of the project, Recycling Ambassadors from the area have been giving out leaflets. The leaflet contains a reminder about what goes in each bin and also information about the bag for life offer. There is a detachable voucher which residents can take to participating businesses enabling them to receive a free bag for life with a purchase.
The six local businesses taking part are:
Quality Fish Bar – 817 Chorley Old Road
Bhojani Wines & Sprits – 16 Monserrat Road
Browns Off Licence – 387 Church Road
Sarah’s Hair – 819 Chorley Old Road
Selectavine - 837 Moss Bank Way
Moss Bank Pharmacy – 833 Moss Bank Way
One of the local shop owners, Minesh Patel, Selectavine states “We’ve had a really positive response from residents who are coming in to collect their free bags for life. The scheme is a great idea as many plastic bags get wasted as they cost money and aren’t reused. Hopefully people will bring their bags for life to the store when they are shopping here in future.”
Elaine Sherrington, Bolton Council Cabinet member for Waste and Recycling said: “It is good to see local businesses working with the residents in their area to promote better understanding of recycling and how easy it is to do. They have recruited local ambassadors to work with the residents to help make the project a success. I hope everyone who gets involved will not only gain knowledge about recycling, but enjoy the experience of building community links.
