Bolton Market has landed a starring role on an international food show.
The award-winning market was chosen as a filming location by the Good Food Channel for its Market Kitchen programme, which is being screened this week throughout the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
The film crew, who usually stay on location at London’s Borough Market, went on a tour of regional towns, and descended on Bolton Market last month.
The market was chosen because of its unique indoor cookery demonstration kitchen, believed to be the first of its kind in the country, and the range of fresh produce on offer.
During filming Bolton chef Paul Heathcote used local produce from traders to cook asparagus with ham shank and potato cakes, and salad with black pudding. Lisa Allen, head chef at the Northcote restaurant, in Langho also appeared on the show.
The market was also singled out for acclaim earlier this year, when it was awarded the title of Britain's Best Indoor Market Hall by the National Association of British Market Authorities.
Councillor Ismail Ibrahim, Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services, said: “From winning Retailer of the year at the Manchester Tourism Awards last year to the Best Indoor Market award this year, Bolton Market really has gone from strength to strength.
“This filming will really help put Bolton Market on the map, which will hopefully encourage more visitors and bring economic benefit as well as helping to raise the confidence of the traders.
“The market is visited by more than two and a half million people every year thanks to the unique atmosphere and shopping experience the market offers, together with the good quality and fresh produce at a low price.”
Paul will appear tonight and Tuesday, May 18 and Lisa will be on Wednesday 19 and Thursday May 20. Shows are at 6pm, repeated the day after at 12pm on the Good Food channel (Sky channel 249, Virgin TV 260).
