Motorists have been warned to expect possible delays from Monday, October 12 on Blackburn Road in Bolton because of bridge strengthening work.
Dunscar Bridge has recently undergone a detailed structural inspection and assessment, which identified that the bridge is in urgent need of repairs.
Engineers will be constructing two training walls at river level to prevent water from washing away the foundations of the bridge. The top of the bridge will also be resurfaced to provide it with a waterproof layer.
Preliminary work has already started but from Monday traffic is being maintained to one lane in each direction and temporary traffic lights will be in operation to ensure the safety of road users and the workers on site.
The Council asks road users to be patient during the works and apologises for any inconvenience caused.
The scheme is expected to finish in February, dependent on weather conditions.
