Bolton Council’s Rock It! Programme is holding its first gig of 2010 at Butterflies on Bridge St on Sunday 18 July at 7.30pm.
The gig will be showcasing five bands which have been formed during the 2010 Rock It! Programme and will provide an excellent opportunity to check out Bolton’s talented young performers. The gig will have a £2 entrance fee and will open its doors at 7.30pm with performances starting at 8pm until 10pm.
The annual Rock It! Programme, which runs until March 2011 aims to develop and support participants as musicians and performers, giving them a social network and providing them with essential life skills. The project provides an insight into the music industry for young people aged 12 to 18 and is suitable for all levels of musical ability, including beginners.
The event will be run by a volunteer programme which runs along side Rock It! comprising of previous participants aged 13-21, who help run events and provide peer tutoring for new participants.
The volunteer programme is part of an independent group called Rock It! Collective, which sources its own funding to run volunteer activities and deliver Arts Award accreditations.
More great sounding entertainment is promised by the volunteer programme on Saturday 25 September, when they will host another event showcasing 12 young bands in Victoria Square.
