Ale enthusiasts are invited along to enjoy an evening of entertainment at Bolton’s festive market.
The Bavarian Stompers, a professional oompah band, will be entertaining crowds on Thursday evening (December 16).
The group have performed all over the world and also recently appeared on CBeebies, on children’s music show ZingZillas.
Councillor Akhtar Zaman, Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services, said: “We’re trying something new with the festive market by arranging a themed Bavarian night.
“The group were the first British oompah band to appear at a major German beer festival so we’re sure they’ll be a success in Bolton.
“We’re always trying to attract more shoppers into the town centre and events like these help.”
The group will perform in the marquee next to the Bavarian Beer Keller, on Victoria Square, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. The beer keller and hot food stalls will be open throughout the evening.
Visitors can tuck into hot food from around the continent, including German sausages, Spanish paella and pancakes.
Markets supremo Arnd Baggen, who has brought the beer keller and continental traders to Bolton, said: “We’ve brewed a festive beer especially for the market. There are also lots of different types of hot gluhwein available, such as a special cherry one and amaretto.”
Bolton’s festive market, which is being sponsored by Sky, will run until Sunday, December 19. Thirty food, drink and gift traders from the northwest are selling their wares.
Face painting, craft workshops and magic shows will take place in a giant igloo and entertainment is programmed in throughout the day in the marquee.
Children can take rides from £3 with Father Christmas in his magical sleigh from Thursday, December 16 to Sunday, December 19. Meeting point is Victoria Square.
Shoppers can also enter a free prize draw for the chance to win tickets to a show at the Octagon; a £50 voucher for Marks and Spencer and The Crompton Place; and a personal shopper experience at Debenhams.
