Local schools in Tonge with the Haulgh ward have been working with an artist to design some new artwork, which will brighten up the streets of the area.
The project was suggested at a Tonge with the Haulgh area forum meeting by both councillors and local tenants and residents associations and the area forum agreed to donate £20,000 towards the design of this street art.
A local artist was commissioned through the Artists in School service to work with 4 local primary schools, Tonge Park, Castle Hill, Bolton Parish Church and Moorgate. The artist and the children developed designs around the theme of travel, which were then moulded into metal plates to be hung onto lamp posts.
A total of 24 banners which centre around four different designs (one from each school) have now been installed on lampposts on Tonge Moor Road and Thicketford Road.
Linda Thomas, Executive Member for Corporate Resources commented: “Local tenants and residents associations were keen to do something to brighten up the area and the area forum was glad to be able to help. These banners will enhance the area and give a sense of pride to the children involved, as they have helped to give something back to their community.”
