Astley Bridge will be having its first ever Christmas lights switch on event this year on Sunday 5 December at 4pm.
Residents are invited to Andrew Lane Park to celebrate the switching on of the new Christmas lights.
Entertainment will be provided by members of the Eagley Band playing Christmas music, and there will be communal carol-singing led by members of St Paul's Church, while residents can enjoy refreshments including mince pies and hot drinks.
At 4.30pm, a local ‘celebrity’ will switch on the lights, followed by carol singing by schoolchildren from High Lawn Community Primary School and The Oaks County Primary School. Father Christmas will also be appearing on a sleigh accompanied by snowmen.
The event has been organised by the Astley Bridge Area Forum using an existing pine tree to save on costs and has been sponsored by Nationwide Franking Sense, PJ Livesey, Elms Nursery, ASDA, Exclusive Kitchens, Howarth Funeral Service and Ladbrokes.
