Apply online for school places

03/09/09

Bolton’s online school admissions service is live and ready to deal with applications for pupils starting a new school in September 2010.

The online admissions service has been in place for primary and secondary school places for some time, and more of Bolton’s parents and carers every year choose to use the system.

Letters are currently being posted out to parents and carers containing details of an access code for making an online application. Alternatively, applications can be made via the postal form provided in the admissions information pack.

The online application rules out any chance of the form being filled in incorrectly. The system also has the flexibility for application changes to be made at any time up to the closing date of October 23. Confirmation receipts are delivered to a personal email address, providing complete peace of mind.

The website is safe, secure and far quicker than the postal process, with application results being emailed directly to you. Primary School results will arrive with parents and carers on March 19, 2010, while secondary school results will be delivered on March 1, 2010.

Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Ebrahim Adia, said: “I’m sure the demand will continue to increase for online admissions and will surpass previous years, as it’s just so much easier to apply online.

“In previous years Bolton has had one of the highest percentage rates for online applications in the country and we have continued to improve the process, providing an excellent admissions service to parents and carers.”

If you do not have access to the internet all of Bolton’s libraries offer free access for up to two hours a day. Sessions can be booked up to one week in advance, although this is not always necessary. Bookings can be made at any library or by calling 01204 333333.

The online school admissions service can be accessed via the link on the top right hand side of this page at bolton.gov.uk/admissions. There is also a dedicated telephone helpline for those applying online - 01204 332118.

The closing date for school applications is October 23, 2009.
