Witness support

Victim Support and Witness Services

Victim Support and Witness Services is the national charity which helps people affected by crime in England and Wales. They provide free and confidential support to help you deal with what you've been through as a victim or witness, whether or not you report the crime to the police.

If you are a victim of crime, local Victim Support branches can give you, your family and friends information and support. And if you are going to court, the Witness Service can help before, during and after the trial.

Through witness services you can talk to someone in confidence, and access information about court procedures,  support when you give evidence, and information when the case has ended.  In addition to this, although the Witness Service cannot discuss evidence or offer legal advice, they can provide easier access to people who can answer specific questions about the case.

Services are free and available to everyone, whether or not the crime has been reported and regardless of when it happened. If you do report a crime to the police they will also put you in contact with us if you want them to.

Victim Support and Witness Services are an independent organisation and not part of the police, courts or any other criminal justice agency.

More information can be found on the Victim Support and Witness Services website.
