Sheltered Housing
Bolton at Home has 62 sheltered housing schemes throughout Bolton. Living in sheltered housing means that you have your own independent accommodation but also receive the Sheltered housing service provided by a scheme based Community Support Officer.
Sheltered housing is available for anybody over the age of 60, or for people under 60, who are ill or disabled and are in need of support in the community and need the Careline service.
Supported Housing
The Supported Housing Team was established to support vulnerable customers living in Bolton at Home properties, housing association properties and the private rented sector.
The role of the team is to assist people to access and maintain more suitable housing within the Bolton at Home housing stock because of their circumstances, support needs, or situation. The aim of the team is to help people to live independently by offering support and advice.
Supported Housing Strategy
The strategy has been developed following robust research identified in the Supported Housing Research, and robust consultation with service users, providers, Steering Group and the BCH Board. It is a sister document to the Supporting People Strategy.
Aim and Strategic Objectives
“To promote choice and independence for those people in Bolton who are vulnerable or suffer exclusion, and address specific housing needs with the provision of quality housing and services.”
This is supported by these objectives:

- Flexibility, Diversity and Improved Access
- Choice, Quality and Customer Standards
- Effective Delivery
Some of the key overall outcomes arising from the strategy are:
- Effective gathering and sharing knowledge and information between Housing, Supported Housing providers, Supporting People, Health and Care agencies through the establishment of the Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) Group.
- Planning for the co-ordinated consultation and involvement of users across the client groups, and developing good practice.
- Increasing access to Supported Housing and services including a package of co-ordinated actions to raise awareness of services and address barriers.
- Effective joint planning and delivery of new services within a shared strategic framework through joint working and the adoption of the Supported Housing Protocol.
Our role is to ensure that all the local key players within and outside the Council, understand the housing and related support problems, needs and aspirations of people in Bolton. We work in partnership to develop joined up approaches that consider and influence broader local, sub regional and regional agendas. We work across social, economic and environmental issues that provide better housing, related support and neighbourhoods. We use quality assurance and performance monitoring systems to ensure that this is achieved.
